President Donald Trump has criticized federal judges for blocking his executive orders, calling them "lunatics" in a post on his Truth Social platform. He urged the Supreme Court to intervene and reverse the injunctions that have halted his administration's efforts, including mass deportations and downsizing government operations. Trump expressed concern that these judicial actions could lead to the destruction of the country.
Trump specifically targeted U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who recently blocked the administration from deporting Venezuelan nationals, including alleged gang members. Trump described Boasberg as a "grandstander" seeking publicity.
"Judge James Boasberg is doing everything in his power to usurp the Power of the Presidency," Trump wrote.
The president has called on Chief Justice John Roberts and the Supreme Court to address what he perceives as a "toxic and unprecedented situation." He emphasized the need for a president to act quickly to ensure national safety, such as deporting criminals. Trump's remarks come amid ongoing legal battles, with more than 100 lawsuits challenging his policies since he returned to office in January.
Trump's administration has faced multiple nationwide injunctions, a judicial tool used against previous administrations as well.
Chief Justice Roberts recently rebuked Trump for suggesting the impeachment of a federal judge, stating that impeachment is not an appropriate response to judicial decisions. Roberts advised that the proper course of action is to file an appeal.
