- Florida’s legislature is scheduled to resume the legislative session in Tallahassee today. The session has moved into overtime over a standoff between the House and Senate over spending levels and tax cuts. Following last week’s announcement by Governor DeSantis that he’d veto a sales tax reduction if passed over his preferred property tax reduction, the senate said they’d not move forward with the House sales tax proposal. A new budget must be in place by July 1st.
- Toxic blue-green algae could once again be threatening Lake Okeechobee. The Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County has issued an advisory following a recent water sample test showing concerning results and is warning residents to be cautious of coming into contact with algae.
- The Town of Palm Beach is conducting sewer maintenance this week from 2200 South Ocean Blvd. to 300 South Ocean Blvd. Work will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Wednesday with traffic reduced to one lane while work is being conducted.
- Rain will continue throughout the day, with heavy showers at times and highs in the low 80’s, which is typical for this date. All of South Florida is under a flood watch until 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. Localized rainfall can total up to 6 inches over the next day.
- Gas prices reached their lowest level in about two years over the weekend and are at the lowest prices on this date in five years. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.92 per gallon - 16 cents per gallon lower than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.04 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.92 and in Indian River County the average is $2.93 per gallon.
