November Hurricane History - 2025

November Hurricane History - 2025

Bottom Line: The finish line for hurricane season is in sight. As we’re into the final month of hurricane season, we’ve made it this far with a total of 13 named storms having formed – two fewer than at the same point a year ago and well below forecasted levels. Additionally, we’re currently on pace to avoid the landfall of a hurricane within the U.S. for the first time since 2015

Now, before discussing what typically happens in November, let’s start with a trivia question... Of the six months of hurricane season, which is the most inactive? If you answered November, you're incorrect. It’s June. November is the 2nd least active month of hurricane season and here's the actual breakdown of months based on activity:

  • #1 September
  • #2 August
  • #3 October
  • #4 July
  • #5 November
  • #6 June

Since tracking began in 1851:

  • 93% of all tropical storms & hurricanes have happened prior to November

What does November generally bring? 93 tropical storms and 64 hurricanes. In other words, we average a tropical storm about every other year and a hurricane about every three years. You might say the wind is at our back as we look to close out hurricane season.
