Florida News That Impacts You – April 6th, 2026

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • The combination of an especially dry season for much of the state and gusty winds led to over 1,500 wildfires statewide during the first quarter of the year, according to the Florida Forestry Service. With the entire state under drought conditions wildfires are pacing well ahead of the 2,500 recorded in Florida two years ago and 3,100 last year.
  • Six area schools were among 20 statewide recipients of $50,000 STEM grants from the FPL and the Education Foundation’s program to aid technological education in classrooms. The money will be used for robots, drones, and 3D printers. The schools are Banyan Creek Elementary School in Delray Beach, Inlet Grove Community High School in Riviera Beach, L.C. Swain Middle School in Greenacres, Pine Jog Elementary School in West Palm Beach, Roosevelt Community Middle School in West Palm Beach and Westward Elementary School in West Palm Beach.
  • Sunday was the last day for Mulligans in Jensen Beach. The location that’s been open for 23 years closed for the last time yesterday with the high cost of rent cited as the primary reason for the closure. The locations in Sebastian and Vero Beach will remain open with employees given the opportunity to transfer to those two locations.
  • It’ll be sunny to start with clouds and eventually rain working its way into the area this afternoon and evening as a cool front moves through with a high in the low 80’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast – which is typical for this date. We can expect cooler temps and rain throughout the day tomorrow.
  • Gas prices are 24 cents per gallon higher than a week ago at $4.20 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.34 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.21, it’s $4.23 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.21 per gallon.
