- The National Hurricane Center predicts a below average hurricane season this year due to the expected impact of El Nino. The mid-point of NOAA’s out calls for 11 named storms – three fewer than usual. The forecast calls for a 55% chance of a below average season, 35% chance of a “near normal” season with a 10% probability of an above average year.
- Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier issued a warning to the Tradition Community Association regarding their recently implemented ban on firearms within the community. According to Uthmeier: Enforcement of its discriminatory policy against anyone for exercising the constitutional right to keep and bear arms will be met with legal action by my office.
- Numerous communities throughout the area will be hosting Memorial Day tributes on Monday. They include the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Palm Beach Memorial Park in Lantana, Boca Raton City Hall/Memorial Park, Veterans Memorial Park on West Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton, Boynton Beach Memorial Park, Delray Beach Memorial Gardens, Veterans Park in Royal Palm Beach and a parade in Wellington from Village Hall to the Wellington Veterans Memorial.
- It’ll be warm, sunny and humid today with highs in the upper 80’s – a little warmer than usual for this date. Similar weather with slightly higher rain changes are expected through the Memorial Day weekend.
- The price of gas dropped by four cents per gallon on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded fuel is currently $4.47 per gallon statewide – though prices remain higher locally. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.62 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.48, it’s $4.50 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.50 per gallon.
