Martin County’s School Board is Right & Two Thirds of Americans are Too

Martin County’s School Board is Right & Two Thirds of Americans are Too – Top 3 Takeaways – July 7th, 2026

Takeaway #1: Martin County’s School Board is Right

The case of former Martin County teacher Matthew Theobald’s ongoing status is far from settled. Recently an administrative law judge recommended that Martin County’s School Board rehire the fired teacher with backpay. Theobald’s case, for those who may not be aware, is rather straightforward. Should someone who takes to social media after the assassination of Charlie Kirk referring to Charlie as a “racist, misogynistic, fear-mongering neo-Nazi" and Turning Point USA as a “modern day Hitler Youth organization” be responsible for teaching children in our schools? That’s an easy judgement call from where I sit. It’s important to note that it’s not just a horrible take on the Christian work undertaken by Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA. But it’s also a statement about the rest of us that have either supported or even participated with Turning Point USA. At the time of Kirk’s assassination there were active TPUSA chapters at Martin County High School and South Fork High School with dozens of members of each (that appear to have only grown amid a wave of support for TP USA since). If Kirk was a racist Neo-Nazi and TP USA is a Hitler Youth camp – what exactly is Theobald suggesting about these students? That’s they’re the equivalent of the Hitler youth? What is he suggesting about the parents of these students, and for that matter a county that’s 2-1 Republican to Democrats and that has made it clear it has Charlie’s back? In Martin County as mostly neo-Nazi county too? It’s for these reasons that the Martin County school board should be applauded for ignoring the abused recommendation by a judge and moving forward with a challenge to that ruling to keep Theobald and his egregious judgement away from kids in schools. Hopefully better judgement prevails upon Martin County’s challenge of the judge’s misguided decision. Martin County’s School Board is right, the judge is wrong, and no taxpayer money should ever flow into Matthew Theobald’s pocket again.

Takeaway #2: Two thirds of Americans are right

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s birthright citizenship decision – whereby the Supreme Court ruled that not even one parent needs be in this country legally in order for a legal citizen to be born by them... It may have proven to have been a bridge too far. On Monday Sinclair Media produced this poll: VOTE: Do you support maintaining automatic citizenship for babies born in the US?. The survey says...two-thirds of Americans think automatic citizenship shouldn’t just take place. The added visibility and the added understanding of this issue may hold the potential to move the needle incrementally. House Speaker Mike Johnson has already stated he intends to bring congressional action seeking to address the issue in the near future. As I’ve covered previously there are four existing exceptions to birthright citizenship that have been recognized by the United States Supreme Court: Children born to foreign diplomats; Children born in outlying possessions such as American Samoa and Swains Island; Children born to enemy invaders; Children born to tribal families that owe direct allegiance to their tribe. Why can’t there be a fifth exception...children born to those who are breaking the law by simply being in this country?

Takeaway #3 The Supreme Court’s ruling reinforced an inherent contradiction

That two wrongs can make a right...or in this case a legal American citizen. It’s a concept that’s absurd on its face. What’s more is how can it legally be that two illegal immigrants could appropriately raise a baby in this country? The Supreme Court justices are aware of these things...so the point is this. Congressional action to further define who is an American citizen, a la what Justice Kavannah indicated that he wanted could prompt another judicial review. Based on the initial survey work – this is what two-thirds of Americans think congress should do. Democrats will no doubt push back...however there could be a potential GOP midterm election benefit. If Democrats continue to filibuster issues that a super majority of Americans want to see...a law Voter ID, proof of citizenship to vote and to be at least in this country legally in order to give birth to an American citizen – these are issues that could push those in the political middle towards Republicans on Election Day. This is an issue worth addressing principally, and if the GOP presses meaningfully on the SAVE Act and citizenship policy, they could be rewarded politically. It’s notable that super majorities of Americans agree with Republicans on major issues that Democrats are filibustering. What does that tell you about how far from the political middle Democrats have drifted?
