Coming down to the wire for the August Primary, with early voting underway in Palm Beach County and along the Treasure Coast. There's no Republican primary in Congressional District 21, where Brian Mast is the incumbent. He is waiting for the winner of a Democrat Primary that features two candidates.
Bernard Taylor is a firefighter-EMT whose community involvement includes being a member of the NAACP. He says he's running because he believes public service should be about solving problems, not scoring political points. Taylor's top priorities include lowering the cost of living, guaranteeing affordable healthcare and protecting Social Security and Medicare.
He's facing James Martin in the primary. The U.S. Coast Guard veteran previously advised the White House on defense and homeland security issues. Martin has the endorsement of former Vice President Kamala Harris who calls him a patriot and says he showed strong judgement and a devotion to our country while serving as Chief of Staff for National Security Affairs and Executive Secretary of the Office of the Vice President during the Biden administration. Among his priorities, cost of living, clean water, and he says he wants an immigration system that is quote "safe, fair, transparent, and humane." Martin wants to invest in immigration judges to clear asylum backlogs and end what he calls the "use of immigration enforcement as a political weapon."
In addition to Republican Mast, the winner of the Democrat primary will face a No Party Affiliated candidate and a write-in candidate in November.
CD-21 has no significant changes from redistricting and covers a portion of northern Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
