FLORIDA - A Florida gubernatorial candidate is drawing attention for an unconventional campaign tactic after confirming he is using the dating app Tinder to connect with potential voters, particularly young women.

James Fishback, a Republican candidate in the 2026 Florida governor’s race, said he created a Tinder profile as a way to engage with younger voters who may not be reached through traditional political outreach.

Fishback, who is in his early 30s and works as an investment executive, said the profile is intended to spark conversations about policy rather than pursue personal relationships.

According to Fishback, his messages focus on issues he believes resonate with younger women, including housing affordability, support for new families, paid maternity leave, and access to pregnancy resource centers.

He stated that the strategy is designed to meet voters on platforms they already use rather than relying solely on rallies, television ads, or mail campaigns.

The approach has generated mixed reactions from Florida residents and political observers.

Some questioned whether a dating app is an appropriate venue for political messaging, while others expressed discomfort with campaigns targeting voters in a space typically used for personal connections.

Political consultants also raised concerns about the effectiveness of the strategy, noting that campaigns usually prioritize outreach to voters with established voting histories.

Fishback defended the move, saying younger voters are often disengaged from politics and that creative outreach methods can increase awareness and participation.

He emphasized that conversations are voluntary and that users can choose whether or not to engage.

Fishback is competing in a Republican primary field that includes several high profile candidates.

None of his opponents have publicly indicated plans to use dating apps as part of their campaign strategies as the race continues to develop.
