The University of Miami is ranked seventh in the 2026 preseason Coaches Poll.

This is the Canes highest preseason ranking in years giving "The U" a legitimate shot to compete again for the Championship Football Championship title.

Reigning national champion Indiana is ranked #6, Notre Dame #5, and Florida and Florida State are outside of the Top 25. Ohio State leads the way at #1.

Mario Cristobal returns as head coach has returned “The U” with a new contract extension. The extension comes in the fifth year of a 10-year, $80 million deal signed in December 2021, and reports are he's getting a raise from $8 million to more than $10 million annually.

In just four years Cristobal has returned the Hurricanes to prominence (35-19) and this season, the Canes are expected to face only two ranked opponents: Clemson and Notre Dame.

Miami hopes to build off last season's visit to the national championship with Darian Mensah at quarterback and returning stars Mark Fletcher Jr. and Malachi Toney.

The U takes on Stanford in the first game of the season Friday September 4th. Click here for full schedule.
