A 'Celebration of Life' is being held for the man who was known as "Jack the Bike Man."

Samuel H. "Jack" Hairston died of a heart attack in July at the age of 81. He repaired and refurbished thousands of bicycles and donated them to less fortunate kids.

Hairston started a nonprofit back in 2007 to offer bicycle education and safety initiatives. According to Jack the Bikeman Inc., 32,000 bikes have been provided to Palm Beach County.

At the time of his death, the charity was in the process of renovating a building they purchased on Claremore Road in West Palm Beach. The lease on the nonprofit's current location expires at the end of the year and the Board of Directors is moving forward with the plans.

Tuesday's ceremony will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Home along Parker Avenue and the date was selected because September 19 would have been Jack's 82nd birthday.

The public is welcome to the Celebration of Life.

Donations in Memory/Honor of Jack can be made to Jack the Bike Man Inc. via check to PO Box 17565 West Palm Beach, FL 33416 or online via Paypal on http://www.jackthebikeman.org/donate.
