How Much DOGE Has Saved You
Bottom Line: During our lives there have been three certainties. Death, taxes and an ever-growing government seeking to collect more of them. That is until now. A day 1 executive order by President Trump established the Department of Government Efficiency, marking the first time that a newly established quasi-government agency has had the effect of shrinking the federal government and the size of the bureaucracy. Led by Elon Musk, DOGE has had an immediate impact. Keeping track of what DOGE has done, and is doing, is a constantly moving target. Literally every day DOGE has exposed waste, fraud, and abuse that’s been flagged to President Trump for the purpose of eliminating programs and to reduce spending. But what does it mean to you?
Here's the most recent update for what DOGE has done (as of February 12th):
- Programs eliminated: 51
- Total savings: $37.69 billion
- Savings per federal taxpayer: $251.24
- Progress towards minimum goal of $500 billion in savings: 7.5%
- Towards best case savings scenario (as stated by Musk): 1.9%
On Tuesday President Trump signed a second executive order enhancing DOGE’s authority to act on the president’s behalf. This has come as a combination of legal challenges and activist judges have worked to slow DOGE’s progress most recently. The legal battles are likely to continue, but so too are DOGE’s efforts to reduce the size of government and save you money.
