- South Florida-based Spirit Airlines has emerged from bankruptcy following a restructuring that left the company with less debt and better capitalized. 358 previously furloughed employees may have the opportunity to return to the company.
- Two additional illegal immigrants have been arrested for their alleged roles in the operation of a human trafficking operation and brothel that PBSO took down last month. The operation included the trafficking of women into the area who were forced into sex slavery. Two arrests were made during the initial sting operation.
- Two students have been arrested at Hidden Oaks Middle School in Martin County following reports of threats made to other students. The students were found by authorities with weapons on campus and have been charged with felonies for possessing weapons on campus.
- Sunny and warm today. Highs will be in the low 80’s – which is a bit warmer than usual for this date. Similar but still warmer weather is expected for the weekend.
- Gas prices rose sharply, by eight cents per gallon – with larger increases locally, on Thursday after having reached lows for the year earlier in the week. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.08 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.20 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.13 and in Indian River County the average is $3.09 per gallon.
