  • The Palm Beach County School Board adopted ten temporary rule changes eliminating DEI, or Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, directives throughout the school district on Wednesday. The changes are in response to a demand by the U.S. Department of Education for all school districts to come into compliance with the Civil Rights Act or risk losing $300 million in federal funding. The initial letter from the federal government was issued in February with the Florida Department of Education issuing a follow up questionnaire that was to be completed by April 18th. In the state’s questionnaire the school district answered that it was in compliance prompting a series of emergency actions by the district to eliminate its violating initiatives this week. Wednesday’s vote prompts changes for the next 90 days while providing for public comment before a vote to finalize changes may be made.  
  • Residents of Boca Raton will receive a 25% discount on federal flood insurance premiums for policies that are renewed on or after October 1st. The discounts are the result of actions taken by the city to qualify for discounted rates under the insurance program’s Community Rating System.  
  • Palm Beach County’s 19th Chick-fil-A location holds its grand opening today. The new location at South Military Trail and Hypoluxo Road in Lake Worth will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. 100 jobs have been created with the store’s opening. Chick-fil-A has donated $25,000 to Feeding South Florida to celebrate the store’s opening.  
  • Today we’ll have partly cloudy skies and warm temps with highs in the mid 80’s which is a little warmer than usual for this date. We can expect similar weather the rest of the week. 
  • Gas prices dropped a penny per gallon on Wednesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.12 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.27 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.15 and in Indian River County the average is $3.14 per gallon.
