Florida News That Impacts You – April 30th, 2025 - Driven By Braman Motorcars

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • The Florida legislative session will not end on time as the state House and Senate were unable to come to a budgeting agreement by the end of the day on Tuesday. Under state law a 72-hour cooling-off period is required from the time a budget deal is reached until the time a final vote may be taken on the legislation. As a result, the state session will enter overtime next week. Legislative leaders indicated a belief they’ll be able to reach an agreement by Friday. Disagreements over spending levels and tax cuts remain at the crux of the impasse.
  • Governor DeSantis signed eight bills into law on Tuesday. The new laws include: Service of Process – which expands hours registered agents keep office hours; Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Only Damage to Vehicle or Property – which allows courts to order drivers convicted of leaving the scene of such crashes to make restitution for the damage caused by their vehicle; Diabetes Management in Schools- which authorizes school district or public school to acquire & maintain supply of undesignated glucagon; Electronic Delivery of Notices Between Landlords and Tenants- which authorizes landlords to electronically deliver notices to tenants; Surrendered Infants- allows parents to anonymously surrender infants up to 30 days after birth; Florida Trust Code - which grants the Attorney General exclusive authority to represent certain interests related to charitable trusts in Florida; Fentanyl Testing - requires hospitals or hospital-based off-campus emergency departments to test for fentanyl in urine tests; A Review under the Open Government Sunset Review Act – which modifies public records information held by the Office of Financial Regulation in Financial Technology.
  • Tuesday was the busiest day of the 60-day session yet with dozens of bills clearing the legislature that will soon be presented to the governor for his consideration.
  • Today will be breezy with mostly sunny skies. Highs will be in the low 80’s which is typical for this date. We’ll have similarly nice weather for the rest of the week.
  • Gas prices rose by ten cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.15 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.29 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.20 and in Indian River County the average is $3.16 per gallon.
