How Much DOGE Has Saved You – May 1st, 2025

How Much DOGE Has Saved You – May 1st, 2025 - Driven By Braman Motorcars

Bottom Line: During our lives there have been three certainties. Death, taxes and an ever-growing government seeking to collect more of them. That is until now. A day 1 executive order by President Trump established the Department of Government Efficiency, marking the first time that a newly established quasi-government agency has had the effect of shrinking the federal government and the size of the bureaucracy. Led by Elon Musk, DOGE has had an immediate impact. Keeping track of what DOGE has done, and is doing, is a constantly moving target. Literally every day DOGE has exposed waste, fraud, and abuse that’s been flagged to President Trump for the purpose of eliminating programs and to reduce spending. But what does it mean to you?

Here's the most recent update for what DOGE has done (as of April 30th):

  • Total savings: $160 billion
  • Impacted Agencies: 22
  • Eliminated initiatives: 18,796
  • Progress towards minimum goal of $500 billion in savings: 32%
  • Progress towards best case savings scenario ($2 trillion): 8%
  • Savings per federal taxpayer: $993.79

The big news this week is that Elon Musk appears to be mostly done with DOGE at this point. Musk said his goodbyes in leaving the White House stating that he only intends to work on DOGE initiatives one or two days a week remotely from here. So basically, what will become of DOGE going forward is somewhat unclear. As a special government employee, Musk was always going to have to leave the White House post this spring. However, DOGE has a mandate to remain in place through President Trump’s executive order until July 4th of next year.
