Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has filed a 34-page appeal to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals seeking an injunction against District Court Judge Kathleen Williams’s decision blocking portions of Florida’s recently enacted Immigration law. Florida’s newest law makes illegal immigration a state offense, allowing for state and local law enforcement action to be taken. In the motion Uthmeier stated: To aid the United States in curbing illegal immigration within the state's borders, SB 4-C criminalizes the entry into Florida of those who have illegally entered the United States. That law tracks federal law to a tee. It also retains federal-law defenses and says nothing of who should be admitted or removed from the country
  • Florida’s drought is the worst in 24 years according to the U.S. Drought Monitor with nearly the entire state in “abnormally dry conditions”. According to the latest data, 84% of the state is experiencing drought conditions, with 9% more of the state having entered drought territory over the past week. This dry season has produced 50% less rain than usual. Rainy season begins next week
  • Today we’ll have cloudy skies to start with mostly sunny skies by the afternoon and highs in the upper-80’s which is warmer than for this date. We’ll have similar weather tomorrow as well with rain chances increasing throughout the weekend.
  • Gas prices fell another 2 cents per gallon on Thursday, are 55 cents lower than a year ago today, and are now at the lowest price in over a year and a half. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $2.97 per gallon.
