  • Governor DeSantis signed 13 bills into law heading into the weekend including the Geoengineering and Weather Modification Activities law, that explicitly bans weather modification attempts; the Exploitation of Vulnerable Adults law; that simplifies the legal process to obtain legal determination that an adult is vulnerable and needs additional protections; the Harming of Neglecting Children law, which redefines the term “harm” and “neglect” allowing for mature children to partake in unsupervised activities. 
  • Florida’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.7% last month – which remains half point below the national average. Similarly, the lowest unemployment rate in the state is the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro with a 3.1% unemployment rate – though that was 0.1% higher last month. 
  • It'll be sunny and warm today with highs in the upper 80’s, which is typical for this date. Rain chances increase by midweek. Saharan dust is continuing across the Atlantic making its way into the Gulf of America.  
  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking a disturbance east of Bermuda that’s likely to become the first named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane season. It’s no threat to populated areas. 
  • Gas prices dropped four cents per gallon over the weekend, though they’re 15 cents higher than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.10 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.25 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.12 and in Indian River County the average is $3.11 per gallon.
