- Governor DeSantis signed a bill into law on Tuesday aimed at beach access and restoration. The Beaches law repeals a 2018 law that limited local governments from designating public beach access without additional oversight. The law also eliminates government regulation for beach restoration projects for areas declared “critically eroded” allowing immediate restoration work to begin.
- Florida’s Division of Emergency Management is using an emergency authorization pertaining to illegal immigration to move forward with retrofitting the largely unused Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, into what will become the country’s largest detainment and deportation facility in the country, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” by Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. The Emergency Management Director provided the notice to Miami Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava on Tuesday following her demand for an environmental impact study, which can take up to eight years to complete, and other considerations – including a higher price for the purchase of the property. Director Guthrie’s letter stated that the state would negotiate with Dade and Collier regarding the purchase price of the site.

Saharan dust is continuing across the Atlantic with a sizeable plumb currently moving over the Caribbean and heading towards Florida.
- The first named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane season has come and gone as Andrea briefly developed into a tropical storm yesterday but has since dissipated. The National Hurricane Center shows no other activity for the next seven days.
- Gas prices dropped two cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.06 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.23 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.09 and in Indian River County the average is $3.07 per gallon.
