- As the state started its new fiscal year on Tuesday, Governor DeSantis signed five bills into law including: A Review under the Open Government Sunset Review Act. The law is aimed at protecting the identity of minors, during public records requests, from disclosure after having participated in legal proceedings. An existing law protecting minors from disclosure was set to expire in October.
- Governor DeSantis vetoed three bills on Tuesday as well including the Public Officers and Employees bill that would have required public sector employees to live in the communities they work in. The Criminal Offender Substance Abuse Pilot Program, that would have prohibited alcohol consumption by those on probation, and the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission bill that also would have changed residency requirements.
- Alligator Alcatraz is open for business. The facility was toured by President Trump and Governor DeSantis along with numerous officials on Tuesday in advance of the thousands of criminal illegal immigrants being moved into the facility for detainment. The facility, constructed in eight days at the largely unused Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, is the largest detainment and detention facility in the country.
- It'll be mostly cloudy and humid again today with highs in upper 80’s, which is typical for this date. We’ll have a chance of showers throughout the day with afternoon thunderstorms in the mix as well. The most recent Saharan dust plume has mostly cleared Florida; however, another thin plume will begin to make its way over south Florida today.
- The National Hurricane Center is tracking a disturbance with a 40% chance of developing near Florida over the next week. The system is likely to be a rain event for much of the state this weekend.
- Gas prices rose another six cents per gallon in advance of the 4th of July weekend. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.13 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.26 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.18 and in Indian River County the average is $3.15 per gallon.
