- Florida’s Attorney General James Uthmeier confirmed that hundreds of illegal aliens arrived at the newly established detention and deportation facility dubbed Alligator Alcatraz on Wednesday night. The new facility has the capacity to hold thousands of detainees.
- The Florida Council of 100, a pro-business leadership group headed by former U.S. Senator George LeMieux, which advises the governor, has launched a recruitment effort to lure New York City-based businesses to Florida following the primary election win in the Democrat primary for socialist Zohran Mamdani. The initiative offers detailed economic advantages Florida offers, from growth, low taxes, the quality of the workforce, capital investment improvements, public safety and more.
- Rain will continue throughout the day today with highs in the mid to upper 80’s, which is typical for this date. Rain remains in the forecast through the weekend. The most recent Saharan dust plume has mostly dissipated around the state, however, another significant plume is heading towards the Caribbean and will likely make its way towards Florida over the next week.
- The National Hurricane Center is tracking a disturbance with a 50% chance of developing off the northeast Florida coastline over the next week. The system will remain a rain event for much of the state.
- Gas prices are flat over the past day and 40 cents lower than a year ago heading into Independence Day. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.13 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.29 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.18 and in Indian River County the average is $3.15 per gallon.
