Florida News That Impacts You – July 16th, 2025

  • Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has begun enforcement of Florida’s newly enacted Weather Modification law, which bans weather modification efforts and requires airports to report suspected activity to the state. Uthmeier has issued notice to all airports that monthly reporting requirements starting in October will be monitored and enforced. 
  • Governor DeSantis announced the opening of the new C-43 Reservoir, in what he called one of the most significant Everglades restoration projects in Florida history. The new reservoir, which is located near LaBelle, will store 170,000 acre-feet of local basin stormwater runoff and western discharges from Lake Okeechobee, which will improve water quality in the Caloosahatchee Estuary.  
  • It'll be sunny much of the day, with a chance of rain and thunderstorms throughout the day today with highs in the upper 80’s, which is typical for this date. Similar weather is expected through Thursday. A Saharan dust plume is currently working across the central Atlantic with the potential to impact our weather this weekend. 
  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking a disturbance that’s crossed Florida from the Atlantic and is now in the Gulf. The system is currently given a 40% chance for development as it’s expected to track westward along the northern Gulf later this week.  
  • Gas prices surged by 13 cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.08 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.22 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.14 and in Indian River County the average is $3.11 per gallon.
