- Florida continues to be the top state for international buyers, according to the National Association of REALTORS annual report. According to the report international buying in the U.S. rose 33% over the past year with Florida capturing over a fifth (21%), or nearly $12 billion foreign property transactions. California was second with 15% of total foreign buying activity. Canadians have remained the top foreign buyers of Florida real estate.
- The Boca Raton Police Department is launching a School Zone Safety Program for the upcoming school year with the use of traffic cameras. The cameras will go live in seven area school zones this year with the aim of expansion throughout the district in the future. Those caught speeding by 10 miles or more in the school zone while lights are flashing, will receive automatic $100 citations.
- A Martin County woman was bitten by an alligator and briefly taken underwater, while wading in waist deep water with her boyfriend and their dog on the South Fork River near SW Linden St. The woman suffered broken bones in her hand but was able to escape and is expected to make a full recovery.
- It’ll be hot and humid today with rain and thunderstorms throughout and highs near 90, which is a little warmer than usual for this date. Another Saharan dust plume is currently tracking across the central Atlantic and Caribbean and will begin to impact our weather this afternoon, leading to drier conditions through the weekend. - The National Hurricane Center is tracking a disturbance over the northeastern Gulf that’s moving westward towards Louisiana and Texas with a 10% chance of development.
- Gas prices surged nine cents per gallon on Wednesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.09 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.23 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.11 and in Indian River County the average is $3.12 per gallon.
