- Today is the first day of school for all area school districts. 33 school zones in Palm Beach County have traffic cameras which will automatically issue tickets to those traveling 10 mph or more above the speed limit while lights are flashing. A host of new laws also are in effect for the new school year including new health and safety policies in addition to stricter rules for cell phone use.
- Northlake Blvd. at the CSX Railroad Crossing opened ahead of schedule on Saturday and traffic is back to it’s normal pattern.
- It'll be hot and humid today with a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day with highs in the low 90’s, which is slightly warmer than usual for this date. A thin layer of Saharan dust is passing into the Gulf today with a thicker plume making it’s way across the central Atlantic. Related...
- The National Hurricane Center is tracking two disturbances. The first is the disturbance that formed off the coast of Africa a week ago. It’s tracking towards the northern mid-Atlantic and isn’t likely to develop or pose a threat to populated areas. A new disturbance off the coast of Africa is likely to develop, with a 90% chance currently and is expected to track through the South Central Atlantic throughout the week. Longer range models show the disturbance likely turning north on the approach to the Caribbean but it’s worth keeping an eye on this week.
- Gas prices fell through the weekend though they’re a bit higher than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.04 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.18 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.04, it’s $3.05 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.04 per gallon.
