  • A 19-year-old illegal immigrant from Guatemala has been arrested in Hobe Sound for two-day long beating and abusing of a pregnant woman who is also in the country illegally. According to authorities, the suspect repeatedly beat and chocked the woman 29-weeks into her pregnancy which led to her stabbing the perpetrator to defend herself. An ICE detainer has been issued for the perpetrator. 
  • The Delray Beach City Commission voted on Tuesday to pursue legal proceedings in Orlando on September 2nd, to attempt to preserve the city’s unlawful “Pride” intersection at NE 2nd Ave and NE 1st Street. An administrative hearing is to be held on September 2nd, one day prior to the state’s deadline for removal.  
  • There is a chance of passing thunderstorms today with highs in the low 90’s, which is slightly warmer than usual for this date. Saharan dust is making its way through Hispaniola and the Caribbean Sea in the wake of Hurricane Erin with the dust likely impacting Florida over the weekend. 
  • The National Hurricane Center is tracking three systems. Hurricane Erin is moving NNW at 13 MPH with top sustained winds of 100 MPH as it remains hundreds of miles offshore. Current forecasting doesn’t include a landfall for Erin. Rip currents remain a concern along the east coast in addition to the potential for coastal storm surge in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. A disturbance in the southern mid-Atlantic has a 60% chance of development and another tropical wave off the coast of Africa and has a 30% chance of developing as it heads towards the southern mid-Atlantic. Neither are likely to be concerns for Florida. 
  • Gas prices fell another three cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.01 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.15 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.01, it’s $3.02 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.02 per gallon.
