- Alligator Alcatraz will remain open for operations as a three-judge panel of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a federal judge’s order to wind down operations at the state’s first detention and deportation facility. The order cites that the state and Department of Homeland Security are likely to win the case on appeal. Governor DeSantis said: The media was giddy that somehow Alligator Alcatraz was 'shutting down,' and we told them that that wasn't true. There have been illegal aliens continuing to be there and being removed and returned to their home country. We said the mission would continue and I'm pleased to say that the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has just stayed that ruling and stayed the case. The state of Florida is currently in process for the opening of two additional detention and deportation facilities, the ‘Deportation Depot’ near Jacksonville and the Panhandle Pokey which is in planning stages without a location determined.
- The first hospital to open on the Treasure Coast in over a decade will take place next week. The Florida Coast Medical Center will open next Tuesday in Port St. Lucie near the Turnpike and Becker Road. The Tenet Healthcare facility will be offering full emergency and outpatient care.
- The Port St. Lucie Police Department will unveil its new dive unit at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Complex today. The four-member team will conduct search and recovery, evidence recovery, vehicle recovery and sunken vessel recoveries among other tasks.
- Clouds, rain and thunderstorms will be in the mix again today with highs in the mid to upper 80's, which is typical for this date. A plume of Saharan dust is in the mid-Atlantic moving over the Leeward Islands acting as a headwind for tropical development. Related...
- The National Hurricane Center is tracking one system. A disturbance approaching the southern mid-Atlantic is currently being given a 90% chance of development over the next seven days.
- Gas prices were flat over the past day. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.14 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.28 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.20, it’s $3.17 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.15 per gallon.
