Have Hemorrhoids? Blame Your Smartphone

Have Hemorrhoids? Blame Your Smartphone

Bottom Line: Ok, actually, it’s not your smartphone’s fault but rather the proclivity to spend more time on the porcelain facility due to the smartphone that’s to blame. This is according to the findings of a newly published study entitled: Smartphone use on the toilet and the risk of hemorrhoids. So, about this study and bumps on your booty...

Findings from the study found two keys that have led to more ‘roids in recent years. Spending over five minutes sitting on a toilet is linked to more hemorrhoids. The reason? The position that we sit in on a potty. The posture leads to increasing hemorrhoidal pressure without pelvic support—unlike seated activities elsewhere. So, the longer we’re on the potty, the greater the likelihood there could be a hemorrhoidal response. Researchers noted that the five-minute mark appeared to be a specifically important cutoff. Who is it that’s most likely to spend over five minutes in the bathroom? Those using a smartphone of course.

Smartphone use in the bathroom was found to have resulted in a 46% greater likelihood of developing hemorrhoids, and that’s due to smartphone multitaskers being 5.3 times more likely to sit on the potty for longer than five minutes in a clip.

If this sounds familiar to you...you’re normal. 66% of adults are on their smartphones while taking care of other business. Also, younger adults are the most likely to spend the most time on their phones while in the bathroom and as a result more people are experiencing hemorrhoidal issues earlier in life as well.

The good news is the obvious news. This is an easily addressable issue, that is unless there’s an addiction that factors into the amount of time spent with a phone on the throne.
