Florida News That Impacts You – September 10th, 2025

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

  • Florida’s number one in Education Freedom for the fourth consecutive year, according to the annual study by the Heritage Foundation. Florida’s Universal school choice program and parental rights in education laws were once again cited as the reasons. Additionally, Florida ranks number one for Civic Education, Academic Transparency and Teacher Freedom (due to alternative pathways to enter the teaching profession).
  • The Florida Department of Transportation painted over Delray’s illegal Pride themed intersection at the intersection of Northeast 1st Street and Northeast 2nd Avenue. The action was taken overnight Tuesday morning following the city’s decision to challenge the state’s authority to enforce state law on the city-controlled street. The city had been given a Friday deadline to comply with an information request from an Orlando-based administrator overseeing the case, however, they opted to file to attempt to remove her instead. The city held an emergency vote to decide next steps on Tuesday, and in a 3-1 vote, with Mayor Tom Carney, dissenting, the city opted to join a legal challenge posed by Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale to the FDOT. The FDOT previously said that if the city didn’t remove the display itself, all costs to do so would be passed onto the city, and future funding could be impacted. Delray Beach risks losing up to $60 million in state funding with this decision.
  • Palm Beach voted unanimously to rename the 4-mile stretch of Southern Blvd. from Palm Beach International Airport to South Ocean Blvd. at Mar-a-Lago President Donald J. Trump Blvd. The vote finalizes the measure approved by the state and county officials in July. Postal addresses along Southern Blvd. will remain in place.
  • It'll be a mix of clouds, rain and thunderstorms throughout the day again today with highs in the upper 80’s, which is typical for this date. Saharan dust currently stretches from the eastern Caribbean through the Mid-Atlantic, acting as a headwind for tropical development. Related...
  • The National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Weather Outlook is clear from tropical cyclone activity for the next seven days as we’ve reached the historical peak of hurricane season.
  • Gas prices dropped another three cents per gallon on Tuesday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.03 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.20 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.09, it’s $3.07 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.04 per gallon.
