A contentious battle for the position of Palm Beach County State Attorney after Democrat Dave Aronberg decided not to run for another term. He has served 12 years.

Running for the seat are a Democrat, a Republican and a No-Party-Affiliated candidate. Adam Farkas says that's the way voters should go.

"When you have somebody who is partisan in that office, the other side is always going to have hesitation and in the back of their minds feel like they possibly aren't treated fairly simply because of their party alignment.

But Republican Sam Stern says he would not operate as a partisan and wants to fix the issues he says exist within the State Attorney's Office.

"The reality is that office did an illegal plea. The reality is that office is employing currently one of the Epstein prosecutors."

One thing Farkas agrees with Stern on is that the office needs improvement.

"Nobody wants to work at the Palm Beach State Attorney's Office. It's turned into a horrible office and that's sad because it was once a wonderful office."

Both Farkas and Stern previously worked for the office that they want to lead. The Democrat candidate, Alexcia Cox, works there currently as a deputy assistant state attorney.

"There's no one in the race who wants to keep Palm Beach County's neighborhoods and roads and school safer than I do because most of the people that I love in the world live here."

But Stern says even Cox's primary opponents don't want her getting the job.

"I've been endorsed by both of the Democratic primary candidates who ran against Ms. Cox who refused to endorse here and instead supported me."

As for the claims of the "illegal plea" deal offered to a man who threatened former President Trump. We reported last week that the State Attorney's Office admitted that Michael Wiseman did not qualify for the plea deal and petitioned the judge to reverse the move. We wanted to ask Cox about that, but she has not taken us up on our offer for a second interview ahead of the election.
