There are two races in the City of Boynton Beach, because District 1 Commissioner Angela Cruz is unopposed.

In addition to the mayoral race, there is one for District 3, where the incumbent is Thomas Turkin.

He cites among his accomplishments on the dais, increased police resources, a reduction in the millage rate and hundreds of new businesses opening in the city.

Turkin's challenger Dominic Vargas did not respond to attempts to interview him but notes on his campaign page that trust in City Hall is at an all-time low. We asked Turkin about that.

"I don't see any data. I don't see any survey. I think that's just semantics and inside ball that's being utilized to try to sway public opinion."

The veterinary clinic manager, realtor and U.S. Navy veteran has been embroiled in a couple of controversies.

They include one in which a female friend was not charged with DUI even though officers who pulled her over smelled alcohol on her breath. Bodycam video shows a cop handing the accident report to Turkin on the scene and the two shake hands.

"And what we're seeing here is just malicious media targeting myself. I was fully exonerated from that and it's just being politicized."

Meanwhile, the FDLE is investigating an incident caught on cellphone video, which shows Turkin grab a phone from the hand of his political opponent at City Hall and refusing to give it back.

"Joel, that's ongoing so I don't want to comment on that right now."

We'll hear from the candidates for Boynton Beach mayor tomorrow.
