Some parents of kids at a Martin County school are speaking out in support of a principal who was removed from campus.
Dr. Timothy Aitken was reassigned earlier this year after ordering the strip search of students at South Fork High School and being present for one of them.
While he's not being fired, the superintendent recommends that he stay away from campus for the rest of the school year. But because he didn't do anything illegal, some say it's unfair.
"As a parent of a student under Dr. Aitken's leadership, I have had the privilege of witnessing Dr. Aitken's leadership, compassion, and commitment to the school community.”
The searches were vape pens believed to have been brought to school back in August.
The subject did not come up during Tuesday night's school board meeting, but the principal's actions went against district policy.
