Sunrise, FL - A Florida mother has been arrested after she was caught on camera brutally beating her 6-year-old son.
Pamela Gaensel, 47, of Sunrise, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of child abuse without great bodily harm.
The incident happened just after 3 p.m. on the side of the road off Sunset Strip and 105th Lane.
According to police, Gaensel was seen on surveillance video tossing her son out of her car by his hair and then throwing a booster seat at him.
Audio from the surveillance cameras also captured Gaensel yelling obscenities at her son and the sounds of her slapping him.
Authorities said that the boy had multiple bruises to his face, arm, and palms, as well as marks on his back from being slapped.
Gaensel claimed that she was only disciplining her child and spanked him, but the evidence suggests otherwise.
Gaensel's 7-year-old brother was also in the car at the time of the attack.
Following Gaensel's arrest, both children were turned over to their father.
Gaensel is currently being held on $5,000 bond. She has been ordered to have no contact with her son unless she is permitted by the Florida Department of Children and Families, which is now investigating the case.
This is a disturbing case of child abuse, and it is important that Gaensel is held accountable for her actions.
