Port St. Lucie Police are warning residents about an uptick in car thefts, and say that one suspect isn't even old enough to drive.

Police say a 12-year old boy attempted to steal around 20 Kias and Hyundais over the past two months and succeeded at least six times. In each case, the vehicles had been left unlocked.

Investigators say that after the first arrest, the boy was not deterred, getting arrested again last Thursday.

Detective Nate Penney tells CBS 12 News that social media challenges played a part in the suspect's actions.

"The internet doesn't always give the best advice to kids. Don't believe everything you see and if you think it's gonna be fun, it's not...especially when you have to wear an ankle monitor at 12-years old when you're showing up to school and everybody's questioning you why you've got an ankle monitor on."

The 12-year old faces several charges including attempted grand theft auto.

Police urge drivers to lock their vehicles at all times.
