The Town of Jupiter has announced the hiring of its first-ever fire chief.

60-year old Darrel Donatto will head up the Jupiter Fire Rescue Department, which is expected to launch in October of 2026.

Starting January 29th, he'll be in charge of hiring personnel and putting together the agency.

Donatto spent the past 20 years with the Town of Palm Beach Fire Rescue Department, including the last five as fire chief.

Many residents have been fighting to keep Palm Beach County Fire Rescue providing fire rescue services, even filing a lawsuit against the town to have the issue put on a ballot.

But town leaders say having a Jupiter fire department will give them more control over costs, operations, levels of service and save taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.
