Miami Beach To Crackdown On Marijuana Possession Ahead Of Spring Break

Miami Beach is tightening marijuana laws just a week before the start of spring break. Commissioner Alex Fernandez sponsoring the ordinance removing an optional civil penalty for people caught with twenty grams or less. Eight years ago, the commission approved a one-hundred-dollar civil penalty for those caught smoking or possessing weed, which has led to too many people lighting up in near beaches and parks. Final passage of this ordinance today on second reading means smoking pot in public could land you in jail for up to sixty days and or lead to a five-hundred-dollar fine.
