(Miami Beach, FL) - With a stop on Miami Beach, Governor Ron DeSantis signed new legislation to tackle homelessness.
The law bans anyone from setting up camp or sleeping on public property in the state.
The new law going into effect Oct 1st requires local governments to provide shelters and campsite options for the homeless with security, sanitation and behavioral health services.
Opponents say the measure doesn't fix the problem; it just shifts the homeless to a new location. DeSantis says it will help make sure Florida streets remain clean and safe.
DeSantis says the law maintains quality of life and safety for Florida families and retirees.
DeSantis says Florida the third largest large state with a relatively small homeless problem saying, "we do not have any cities in the top ten with respect to homeless."
