Polk County, FL - Polk County Sheriff's deputies apprehended a wanted man who removed a home's floorboards in an attempt to hide following a hit-and-run and assault on Sunday afternoon.

According to a press release, deputies responded to a report of a disturbance involving two groups near Central Avenue Southeast and 3rd Avenue Southeast at around 2 pm.

The situation turned violent when 19-year-old Gage Dennis allegedly used his car to deliberately strike four people, injuring one victim.

Fellow suspect, Andrew LaPorte, 19, then reportedly jumped on the downed victim and continued the assault.

Dennis attempted to evade capture by crawling under a nearby house.

He then removed floorboards and entered the residence, but deputies were able to apprehend him inside.

Both Dennis and LaPorte were arrested.

Thankfully, the victim sustained only minor injuries from the attack.

Dennis faces serious charges including burglary, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and four counts of attempted first-degree murder.

LaPorte is charged with battery and violation of probation.
