Fort Lauderdale is dealing with an inundation of rain.
"Since last year, we've implemented a lot of drainage systems and those are holding up and we're seeing some great improvement in the those areas like Edgewood and River Oaks, " said Mayor Dean Trantalis.
However, Trantalis hopes the rain will subside tonight because there's only so much the city's system can absorb. He will sign an Emergency Order to help with emergency funding. The city's Emergency Operations Center is activated and will likely be through the weekend.
Hallandale Beach is under a State of Emergency due to heavy flooding. Mayor Joy Cooper says in her more than 30 years in the city, this is the first time Pembroke Road has been flooded.
"If they're stuck, they do need to understand that a lot of the roads are even impassable for a lot of our police vehicles. That's why we declared even the state of emergency, so we can mobilize and access better and safer, " she said.
Parks and the City Hall complex are closed until Monday.
Even with flood infrastructure investments she admits, by living at sea level, some storms are going to create floods.
