The city of Riviera Beach has fired its utilities director in connection with an inaccurate report regarding fecal bacteria being found in the city's water supply and residents were never notified.

The mayor announced in January that he was launching an investigation after the Florida Department of Health alerted him that there was in fact fecal matter in the drinking water. This after now-former Utilities Director Michael Low had said it was only in the wells.

The announcement came seven months after a water sample tested positive for the bacteria.

It all came to a head at City Hall where Low was terminated.

Council members were unanimous in the vote. They also voted for the Health Department to fine the Utility Special District around $80,000.
