The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is getting a requested $45 million to protect President Trump while he is in town.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw tells County Commissioners that the money is needed, especially after two assassination attempts last year.

"It’s expensive, but we don’t really have a choice."

He says $13 million of the $45 million will pay for expenses incurred last year, while Trump was still a candidate. The other $32 million is for anticipated deputy overtime costs that will be incurred through November 2025.

Commissioners on Tuesday approved transferring some of the money from reserves after County Administrator Verdinia Baker said that all of the money spent to protect Trump was reimbursed by the federal government during his first term.

"We are working diligently and hopefully we will be reimbursed for all of our expenditures."

She says it could take up to a year to get that reimbursement.
