A truck driver faces serious charges in a hit and run that sent a mother and young child to the hospital.
Martin County deputies say the woman and her 3-year old were driving along Kanner Highway yesterday when a semi that was switching lanes hit their car and kept driving. The vehicle wound up submerged halfway into a retention pond.
Some construction workers nearby saw the vehicle and ran over to pull the mother and child out of the water. They suffered minor injuries.
69-year old truck driver Alton Winters was arrested later along U.S. One. He says he knew he hit something but had to make a delivery to a produce company.
Winters is charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injuries.
