Miami-Dade, FL - A South Florida woman is facing grand theft and fraud charges after allegedly stealing $800,000 worth of cryptocurrency from her ex-boyfriend, leading to her arrest and possible deportation.
According to Miami-Dade County records, the victim claims his former girlfriend accessed his digital wallet without permission and transferred approximately $850,000 worth of "Trump Coin" cryptocurrency to her own account.
He told investigators he discovered the missing funds after waking up on February 9th to find she had left his yacht, where they had been living together.
In addition to the alleged cryptocurrency theft, the woman is accused of using his credit cards to book a $4,000 Airbnb stay and spending approximately $14,000 on a shopping spree.
With the help of a private investigator, the incident was reported to the Miami Police Department, leading to her arrest at a downtown Miami hotel.
She was charged with third-degree grand theft and credit card fraud.
However, the woman has denied the allegations, telling police that her ex-boyfriend had willingly allowed her to use his credit card.
According to her statement, she had ended the relationship and had no intention of returning.
She also claimed she did not want him to know her whereabouts.
Shortly after her arrest, she was transferred from the county jail to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
As of Thursday afternoon, she remains detained in Florida, with her immigration status under review.
The victim is urging authorities to keep the woman in the U.S. so Miami-Dade prosecutors can move forward with charges.
He fears that if she is deported, she will still have access to the stolen funds.
The woman has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Her attorney has stated that she is seeking release from ICE custody and maintains that "justice will be served."
Authorities continue to investigate the case.
