Police in Jupiter are urging residents not to believe everything they read on social media.
This after a fake Facebook post made its way through the community claiming there was a dangerous serial killer in the area and urging residents to share the post, which was complete with a random man's mugshot.
The police department took to its Facebook page to say the post is fake and did not originate from any law enforcement post.
The agency urges residents to only trust information that's shared directly from law enforcement channels.
Police say scammers often use fake profiles to conduct fraudulent activities and deceive people into giving away personal information or money.
