The Palm Beach County School Board met yesterday to discuss potential impacts from cuts to education that have been proposed by some Florida lawmakers.
Bills are being considered that would do away with some college level courses taught at high schools.
Schools Superintendent Mike Burke says the 50 percent cut would amount to $32 million in funds lost.
"We had 70 percent of our Class of 2024 take at least one college level course, and we've been growing that each year. And without these resources it's going to be hard to sustain that."
It's all about cutting taxes, but Burke says it could wind up costing families.
"If you're a parent of a high school student, you benefit from kids being able to generate those college credits for free and if this funding is cut, they may end up having to pay more down the road."
School Board members say they don't yet know how potential federal impacts will affect AP and other college courses.
