State Budget Deal Reached In Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE -- Florida lawmakers say there's a deal on the state budget.

Senate President Ben Albritton says it includes two and a quarter billion dollars in revenue reductions.

About a third of that ($900 million) comes from abolishing the business rental tax. There are permanent sales tax exemptions in the deal but no reduction in the overall sales tax rate.

Albritton and State House Speaker Daniel Perez say in memos that they expect to pass a budget on June 16, for the fiscal year that begins July 1st. That would give Governor DeSantis two weeks to go through and issue line-item vetoes.

House members had clashed with Governor DeSantis and the Senate over sales versus property tax relief.

Budget conferences will start Tuesday in Tallahassee.
