Palm Beach County, FL - A stretch of Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County could soon be ceremonially renamed “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard,” pending a vote from the County Commission.

The proposal would designate a four-mile portion of Southern Boulevard, running from Palm Beach International Airport to the entrance of Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s private residence, as an honorary roadway.

Earlier this year, the Florida Legislature passed, and Gov. Ron DeSantis signed, legislation directing the Florida Department of Transportation to install signage recognizing the 45th president along that section of the road.

While the renaming would be symbolic, it still requires approval from the local government to proceed.

If passed, the new signs could be installed as early as September.

Postal addresses and emergency services will continue using the existing name, Southern Boulevard.

The legislation also includes another honorary renaming for a different section of the same road: “PBSO Motorman Highway,” in memory of three Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office motorcycle deputies who were killed in a crash in 2024.

Both designations are ceremonial and will not affect navigation systems or emergency response protocols.

Supporters of the Trump designation cite the former president’s close ties to the area and argue that the tribute reflects the political identity of many local residents.

Critics argue that public roadways should remain nonpartisan and warn of setting a political precedent.

If approved, the signs for both honorary names will be installed by the Florida DOT.

The resolution is expected to draw local and national attention ahead of Tuesday’s vote.
