Elections will go on business as usual in the city of Miami this November as an appeals court rules the ordinance passed by commissioners to move the election to 2026 is unconstitutional. Nova Southeastern University's Bob Jarvis says the Florida Constitution says a switch must be made in accordance with the Miami-Dade Charter. Mayoral candidate Emilio Gonzalez sued the city over the move, saying it unfairly gives elected officials an extra year in office. Commissioners voted in June to move elections to even years in an effort to increase voter turnout.
