(Ocala, Fla) - An update on a case that shocked the nation and attracted the attention of the White House.
A murderer convicted of stabbing a 6-year-old to death was released early by corrections in Kentucky and relocated to Florida.
Marion County Sheriff Lt. Paul Bloom says 42-year-old Ronald Exantus served less than half his 20-year sentence when Kentucky paroled him for good behavior.
Concerned Florida law enforcement tracked him to Ocala and failed to register with the state as a relocated felon in a timely manner.
Lt. Paul Bloom says Exantus failed to register with the state as a relocated felon in a timely manner.
"You have to ask him, have you met Florida, do you know our sheriff, governor or attorney general here?" Lt. Bloom said, "There is zero tolerance for that type of behavior, and you're not going to flaunt the law and fail to register here."
Exantus is now being held at the Marion County Jail without bond with the intent to send him back to Kentucky.
According to Lt. Bloom, "The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and 5th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office obtained a warrant for the arrest of Ronald Exantus for failure to register as a convicted felon. State officials are now working to send him back to Kentucky. We were alerted that this dangerous individual who murdered a child by repeatedly stabbing him in the head was in Florida."
