Hernando County, FL - Hernando County officials have voted to rename a section of California Street as Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway in honor of the late conservative activist.

The decision was made during a Hernando County Commission meeting, where commissioners voted unanimously in favor of the change.

Here Ryan Gorman and Dana McKay cover this story and more on The Ryan Gorman Show:

The renamed stretch runs between Spring Hill Drive and Powell Road, in front of Nature Coast High School.

Commissioner Steve Champion shared his gratitude on social media, thanking fellow commissioners for supporting the measure.

The designation serves as a public tribute to Kirk, who was a prominent figure in conservative youth activism and founder of Turning Point USA.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on September 10th, while hosting a public event at Utah Valley University.

Authorities report that the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested and faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder and obstruction of justice.

Robinson allegedly confessed to the shooting in messages to a roommate, citing political motives. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In addition to the local tribute, President Donald Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom on what would have been his 32nd birthday.

The ceremony highlighted Kirk’s work in promoting political engagement among young Americans and his influence within conservative circles.

The street renaming is intended to serve as a lasting memorial for Kirk’s contributions and as a recognition of his role in political activism.
