(Miami, FL) - A suspected serial offender dubbed the "pillowcase rapist" may be incompetent to stand trial on new charges.
65-year-old Robert Koehler in Miami court Monday as attorneys argued over his mental health. Prosecutor Laura Adams accused the defense of using a delay tactic.
The defense telling the judge that their client is decompensating and making delusional claims. Judge David Young sealed the record pertaining to the claims.
Koehler is already serving 17 years in prison for rape, and the new charges are connected to another rape case from 1985 in Miami-Dade.
The state believes Koehler is a serial rapist who allegedly used a pillowcase to cover the face of his victims.
Over the state's objection calling it a delay tactic, the judge ordered a competency hearing for Tuesday morning.
Judge Young stated agreed that the defense motion was not compelling, but he doesn't want to try the rape case twice.
