UPDATE: Miami Beach Commission Meeting Cancelled; No Vote On Surplus

UPDATE: 10/29 8:25a:

Because of the accident that took the life of Miami Beach Police Motorman David Cajuso, today's commission meeting has been cancelled.

The city has an 11-million-dollar surplus and that means some residents could be getting checks for five hundred dollars. Commissioner Alex Fernandez says Homesteaded homeowners would qualify along with some eligible renters who essential overpaid in taxes last year. But commissioner David Suarez is against the idea, calling it a political stunt ahead of Election Day. He says of the 33 percent homesteaded residences, about 3 thousand are valued over a million dollars. That means 1.5 million of the 11 million is going to millionaires and billionaires.
